There’s nothing more rewarding than the soft chime of a trophy popping, and Sony is working to make that even more rewarding. Just in time for the release of the PlayStation 5, Sony has announced that they are reworking the much-beloved trophy system with expanding levels and brand-new icons.

Detailed in a PlayStation Blog post, they plan on expanding the trophy system levels. As of right now, the levels are 1-100, but this new update will in

Your Trophy level will automatically be remapped to a new level within this new range based on the Trophies youโ€™ve earned to date. For example, if your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200โ€™s. The exact level will depend on the number and grades of trophies youโ€™ve acquired. There will be no changes to the Trophies already earned or Trophy information, such as unlock requirements.

Similarly to the last few generations, previous PlayStation trophies earned will travel onto the new system and console.

These expanding levels also come with impressive new PlayStation icons to show off your trophy-grabbing abilities. The icons are displayed above, and the varying levels can be seen below.

  • Bronze: levels 1-299
  • Silver: levels 300 โ€“ 599
  • Gold: levels 600 โ€“ 998
  • Platinum: level 999

According to the blog post, these changes should take place on Thursday in North America and Friday in Europe. These changes come a month before the release of their new console; the PlayStation 5 will release on November 12th, 2020.
