Amnesia: Rebirth seems to be the successor to the horror game legend we’ve all been waiting for. In the game, you take on the role of a survivor of a plane crash in the Algerian desert, going by the name Tasi Trianon, where Daniel originally found the orb from the first game. However, this title seems to be set in 1937, nearly one hundred years after the events of The Dark Descent. The trailer doesn’t reveal too much, in typical horror game fashion, but it does give us some clues about new gameplay mechanics and characters we may encounter in. This is the second time in the series there’s been a female playable character and the first time that the character has a full model rather than floating disembodied hands.
A whole decade ago, the prequel to Amnesia: Rebirth was released, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It was a survival horror game set in a creepy Prussian castle in the year 1839, with the player assuming the role of a man named Daniel, who wiped his own mind while being pursued being a monster known only as “The Shadow”. This game became a YouTube phenomenon seemingly overnight, likely because it was unmatched in being straight-up terrifying. The developers created a truly unique experience by adding puzzle elements to a survival horror, which when combined with the creepy atmosphere an old castle naturally has and the ever-present Shadow, it’s not a mystery why the game had such a big influence on the horror game trend. Perhaps Amnesia: Rebirth will have the same effect? Time will only tell.
Amnesia: Rebirth is set to launch on October 20th, 2020 for $26.99 with the current 10% discount. With so much going for it, I wouldn’t blame you for making a purchase. It’s currently available for pre-order on PC through GOG, Epic, and Steam and will also be available on the Playstation 4. Will you be exploring the Algerian desert in Amnesia: Rebirth?
