Among Us has quickly become a vastly popular mystery game. Similar to the board game Clue, players must determine the guilty party that’s been killing. While that sounds like simple fun, it’s got a bit more of a learning curve than the board game does. Subterfuge and deceit are a large part of the game, requiring a knack for lying.
As with anything popular, a small group has chosen to participate in the game in other ways.
Since its release back in 2018,ย Among Usย has maintained a steady popularity among fans. Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez decided to give it a whirl a few days ago. She was joined by streamers Pokimane, DrLupo, and Myth. Her stream earned the fifth most watched stream ever on Twitch.
Despite the genuine accomplishment in generating views, it was not one that would inspire everyone in a positive way.ย Among Us, according to developers, has been hit by hackers in the past. This was previously nothing more than people enhancing their own ability to play the game. This time, the hack involved spamming entire game servers with the message “Trump 2020” accompanied by a message to subscribe to the “Eris Loris” YouTube page.
Through the chat function, the message bombarded virtually every game repeatedly. One Twitter user shared an image of exactly what they received:

Theย Among Usย player also went on to suggest the link may have compromised user IPs. And the hacker claiming responsibility claimed they had recruited many servers to contribute. As many as 5 million players may have been affected by the event.
While the attack hit a great deal of people, developers were quick to respond. They shared their planned response to the massive hack:

As they suggest, the safest bet may be to restrict your play to familiar faces. Be aware of any oddities during gameplay, and report anything out of the ordinary.
