In case you missed out on yesterday’s hubbub, yep, Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed (again) to December 10. On social media, CD Projekt Red cited that it happens because of the team having to work on nine different versions simultaneously while in the pandemic working conditions. But a conference call held after the Cyberpunk 2077 delay, hosted by CEO Adam Kicinski, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz, and SVP Business Development Michal Nowakowski, tells another side of the story.
According to the teleconference transcript highlighted by the Polish Press Agency, CDPR admits that the December Cyberpunk 2077 delay is caused by the PS4 and
“This situation is different compared to previous changes to the deadline – the game for PC is ready and plays well on next-gen consoles and the company is finalizing the process concerning current gen consoles.”
Even with this Cyberpunk 2077 delay, CDPR expects no huge pre-order cancellations and is still satisfied by the number of pre-orders. Kicinski said that they believed the November 19 release was a possibility but having extra three more weeks of development gives them a chance “to fix this and that”.
The decision was not easy but we know there is just one release and the first impression is crucial so in the long-run the decision is beneficial. Better initial reaction to the game always works in favor of more sales. That is why we are delaying, we don’t have to but having this extra time gives us more certainty that everything will be in the game when we release.”
The company is sure that they have “something amazing” and once the game is released “everyone will understand” why the development was so difficult. After all, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed three times: to September, November, and now to December. Still, they are super happy with “what they will deliver”.
