Sharpen your claws. The masked, high-flying Spaniard is coming to Street Fighter V. Vega has been an almost constant character in every game the Street Fighter series, and his newest iteration for Street Fighter V gives the beautiful ninja several new tricks up his puffy sleeves. Check out the official reveal trailer for Vega:
Vega was revealed at Gamescom, and from the trailer and reports of people who have played with him, we can see a few big time changes. First, never once do we see his “Scarlet Terror” move in the trailer. This has classically been Vega’s “get off me” wake-up move, so it will be interesting to see if he still has that capability.
Vega has always had some tricky dodging moves, but his V-Skill maneuver in Street Fighter V, the Matador Turn, gives him an entirely new dodge. This V-Skill can be seen several times throughout the trailer, as Vega spins a slow circle to dodge his opponent’s attack. He then unleashes a nasty counter that can either put the opponent down or keep them standing for an incoming mix-up.
The other big change to Vega in the trailer is his V-Trigger skill, the Bloody Kiss. Yes, Vega now has a projectile attack. Vega throws a rose at his opponent, and it appears to fire from almost any position and in any direction (including from the air or against and airborne opponent). If it hits, Vega immediately follows it up with a charging slash attack. This looks to make Vega extremely dangerous to approach from the air anytime he can activate the Bloody Kiss, as it is an easy punish against a reckless opponent.
Of all the information that has come about Vega, the biggest change to his character comes directly from the Street Fighter V twitter page, with this gem:
How would Vega handle as a 100% circular motion character? You’re going to find out in SFV… https://t.co/VFrZPUcept @TheStreetWriter

Vega’s fundamental playstyle is getting an overhaul with Street Fighter V. Instead of the defensive, charge-based style (where the player must hold a direction for a few seconds before unleashing a special move) he has shared with characters like Blanka and M. Bison, Vega will be given the circular movements made famous by Ryu’s fireball. Sounds like a beautiful foundation for dominance. Look for Street Fighter V in March 2016.
