Tara Butters and Chris Dingess, the two executive producers of ABCs Agent Carter have announced that Madame Masque, a relatively modern Marvel villain, will be Peggy Carter’s for in the second season of the show. Speaking in an interview with SlashFilm about the second season of Agent Carter, the two producers elaborated on retrofitting the character into the 1940s. Speaking about rights issues and converting the character to fit the show, as well as the 1940s, Butters said:
“In the comic books, a lot of the Marvel period, there are issue rights. Our villain from the season is very much a Marvel villain that we co-opted a little bit like we did Dr. Fennhoff in the first season…I think weโve changed the look of her a bit obviously. Weโve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a โ40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so thatโs part of what weโre mining with this character.”
Butters also mentioned that Peggy Carter will have moved on an awful lot emotionally from the first season, especially moving on from Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, and that we’ll see a “lighter” side of the SSR agent, saying:
“The nice thing is, I feel like by the end of the first season, she had decided emotionally that she needed to move on. I think that when we start season two, the nice thing is you will see a much lighter Peggy, one who is ready for the adventure of her job and potentially the adventure of a new relationship. Sheโs not going to be mourning the loss anymore. Itโs still someone she absolutely loved but the fact is she knows she has to move forward in her life.”
The second season of Agent Carter is set to premiere in 2016.
