This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

It’s official – Resident Evil Village is hitting next-gen consoles on May 7, 2021. You can expect to find the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. However, Village is also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One if you’re more current-gen-inclined.

The release date reveal was announced at the digital Resident Evil  Showcase. The showcase not only displayed additional gameplay footage of the survival horror game but also announced a new RE multiplayer game. Set in the ‘remake universe’, the game in question is a celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. It pits famous Resident Evil heroes against one another in intense deathmatch scenarios. Each character has their own unique skill set to exploit.

But where the eighth main installment is concerned, fans can pre-order Resident Evil: Village starting today. If you’re lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5, you can get your hands on the Maiden demo. The demo offers the first look at Castle Dimitrescu, the setting of the game.

Resident Evil Village continues the story of Ethan Winters from RE 7. While Ethan is out in the trenches again, he at least has help at hand. You can now purchase equipment, items, crafting recipes, and customize your weapons with a merchant known as “The Duke”. This is a returning feature from Resident Evil 4.

Like earlier RE games, Ethan’s inventory is limited in terms of space. This will therefore encourage you to strategically plan your survival in the village. Given the diverse range of creatures in the game, it’ll be something of a necessity. From fast-moving stalkers to Lady Dimitrescu’s insect-transforming daughters, there’s seemingly no end to the horrors Ethan will have to contend with. You will have to adapt to the monsters’ distinct ways of attacking to strategize your survival.

Pre-orders for Resident Evil Village come in a couple of forms. The Deluxe Edition comes packed with extra features, including a Samurai Edge weapon, RE7-inspired screen filter, tape recorder save point options, and much more. The physical Collector’s Edition has all the features of the Deluxe Edition, albeit with more goodies: a statue of RE hero Chris Redfield, a SteelBook case, an art book, and a cloth map of the village with key art printed on the reverse side.

Are you hyped for Resident Evil Village? Will you get the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition? Let us know in the comments below.
