The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus (along with everyone else) may have been hugely letdown when Konami and Kojima’s Silent Hills crashed and burned with the game’s developers’ relations. However, for this shy guy who’s simply seeking to do what he’d probably call “cool shit,” his chances to appear as a digitized character weren’t completely dashed against a wall.
Walking Dead and mobile game fanatics, meet The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land.
Previously, No Man’s Land had been advertised by this haunting mini-trailer, featuring (a warped version of) TV stars Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan’s rendition of “The Parting Glass.” The video truly didn’t tell us a whole lot about the game itself besides the fact that it fully intends to honor its Walking Dead namesake in all regards, human and dead:
Wrote Kalle Kaivola, of No Man’s Land’s developer, Next Games, that “The Walking Dead TV show revolves around an evolving group of characters and what happens to them. We want this to be at the heart of our game as well. In The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land you will have your group of survivors and their destiny is in your hands… Where do you find shelter for your group? Where do you find the food, equipment and weapons you need? What is the best strategy to overcome the walkers closing in? Who will survive?” We’re told straight-out that not everyone will.
“In this game, we will not be writing the whole story for you. It’s your experience surviving the walker onslaught, not a narrative written for you. We see the game as a hobby, not a one-time experience with a beginning and a pre-defined end… not everyone will fit in and not everyone will make it.”
Earlier today, on the mobile game’s official Facebook page, an announcement was posted stating, “Coming October 2015, the official mobile game of AMC’s The Walking Dead featuring Daryl Dixon.” In other words, it will arrive on iOS devices around the same time that season 6 of the TV show is to air (October 11 at 9 p.m. ET). Attached to the Facebook announcement was a sneak peek video handing fans their first glimpse of what to expect from the app in terms of gameplay, graphics, and more:
As an article on Entertainment Weekly pointed out, that “and more” will be assistance from “one of the AMC drama’s most beloved characters,” Daryl Dixon himself, as you strive to lead your survivors through the world of the dead toward that potentially unobtainable goal of safety and peace. “With voiceover by Norman Reedus, Daryl will be there for players as they start their adventures, while helping to train them in the ways of walker fighting and apocalypse surviving.”
Kaivola of Next Games also announced that in working with AMC, they’ve been asked “to put in even more blood” than appears on the show. Right on. That almost makes up for AMC changing Rick’s last line at the end of the season 4 finale.
Are you hyped for No Man’s Land? Or are you keeping your hopes low until you get to experience the apocalypse firsthand?
