New operations system, new problems. Microsoft’s newest version of Windows, Windows 10 has been downloaded by millions of users worldwide. Downloading 10 is almost mandatory now for PC users as Microsoft cut off support for Windows 7 users. Typically, most updates go through many growing pains and adjustments for consumers. Everyone remembers the largely unsuccessful Windows Vista and how well it slowed computers down.  For the most part, Windows 10 has been met with worldwide acclaim. The new operating system does a good job of sticking with what made Windows 8 successful and also bringing back many nice features, including the start menu and a nice new search bar.

However, not all is sunshine and roses. During the August 11th roll out of Microsoft’s “Patch Tuesday,” some users have reported that the update has turned their computer into a brick. One such user chimed in with his thoughts on the Microsoft forums:

“Downloads, reboot to install. Gets to 30% and reboots. Gets yo [sic] 59% and reboots. Gets to 59% again and then states something went wrong so uninstalling the update. Wait a few minutes and reboot. Back to login screen This happens without fail, every single time” (Quote from The Register).

Since the patch’s release, Microsoft has acknowledge the loop error and created a solution in kind. Unfortunately, this fix has not resolved everyone’s problems. Forbes Online mentions how it may be considered unfair for users to be required to download whatever Microsoft throws at them, especially if these patches cause users to enter a non-stop reboot sequence. Personally, I really do enjoy the new product that Microsoft has released. As I am running an older graphics card, my computer has lagged a little bit keeping up with the new OS, but I have really enjoyed the changes. Hopefully Microsoft will be more careful in the future about these mandatory patches to ensure these types of issues do not arise.

(Thanks to Forbes and the Register for the information).
