The early 2000’s Star Wars video game, Star Wars Republic Commando, will see a new lease of life when it releases on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on April 6. The cost of the remaster remains relatively low at $14.99. Revamped by Aspyr Media, this won’t be the first time a cult Star Wars game has been upgraded for modern hardware. In the past, Aspyr has also worked on remasters such as  Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. Currently, they’re awaiting the release of the Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse remaster on March 16.

Considered a classic by many, Star Wars Republic Commando originally released on PC and Xbox in 2005. Therefore, this marks the first time it’ll drop on PlayStation and Switch. It is set during the Clone Wars, and the player was tasked with commanding their own squad, called Delta Squad. Notably, given its status as a game set in the galaxy far, far away, it preferred guns to the iconic Star Wars lightsabers.

Unlike the original, the upgrade drops with only the single-player mode. So if you wanted to jump online, you’ll be out of luck.

Of all the old games in the Star Wars franchise, Republic Commando seemed the most obvious choice for a remaster. In a statement about remastering the beloved game, Aspyr co-founder Ted Staloch said:

Since its original launch in 2005, Republic Commando continues to be a fan-favorite Star Wars game. We’re honored to be able [to] work with Lucasfilm Games to bring back this beloved moment in franchise history.”

If you can’t wait for the remaster, you have a couple of options. Firstly, the original game is still available to play on PC. In addition, for console gamers, it’s currently on Xbox via backward compatibility. You can pre-order the game on Nintendo Switch here. Alternatively, the original game is currently available on Steam here.

Will you be playing the remaster? Let us know in the comments below!
