Stardew Valley has many ways for players to make money. Of course, you can farm, but why not take your chances spending your days fishing by the sea? You might just be able to catch the famed Pufferfish. In Stardew Valley,  they sell for quite a bit and you’ll actually need them for some quests. This guide will tell you all you need to know to catch all the Pufferfish you could want.

How to Catch Pufferfish

To catch Pufferfish in Stardew Valley, you will need to wait until summer. The summer season is the only season in which Pufferfish will spawn. Head down to the beach during the early morning, or use a beach totem if you have one, as they are only available between 11:30 am and 3 pm.

You will know when you have one on your line when the fish is incredibly difficult to get. It’s almost like the fish is puffing up and down. To help mitigate this, it’s best to use a trap bobber. They make it harder for the fish to escape when you aren’t actively reeling them in. So, it buys you time to get that green bar back onto the fish.

Don’t be surprised if you only get one a day. Pufferfish are hard to get on an ideal day. Just keep trying and you should eventually get a good enough supply.

You can also make your way to the Traveling Merchant if you are having bad luck fishing for them. They are pretty expensive, however. Each Pufferfish can be bought for 1000 gold. So, if you have the patience for it, fishing might be the best way to go.

Pufferfish are required for the Aquatic Research quest. Demetrius is trying to research their venom and needs a fresh specimen. They are also needed for a Community Center bundle. Outside of quests, these fish are also very profitable for the player. They can easily sell for a base of 200g, and if the player has the Angler upgrade, they can sell up to 600g.

All in all, the Pufferfish takes some hard work and patience to get, but it will be worth it when you do. Happy hunting!
