I must admit, it’s weird to hear news about GameStop that isn’t stock-related anymore. I mean, that whole saga arguably did more for GameStop than anything prior, and now that has (largely) passed, the company has been trying to capitalize on that ever since. Their newest foray into increasing customer satisfaction (a long-running issue if you believe some places on the internet) is the opening of a new fulfillment center in York, Pennsylvania.

GameStop, PA

The 700,000 square-foot facility located on the east coast in PA will improve its ability to deal with online orders and “will position it to grow product offerings and expedite shipping across the east coast.” Online orders have been a facet of GameStop’s business that has massively increased since the COVID-19 pandemic started, amid ongoing financial struggles that have been a problem for some years now. Overall revenue for GameStop in the last year (ending January 30) was down approximately 21%, but its e-commerce sales were dramatically high, with a rise of nearly 200% compared to the last reports.

GameStop has doubled down on its online offerings in recent months, including a management revamp where Ryan Cohen was appointed as the new chairman of the board. Cohen has had previous experience in online e-commerce, notably as a former CEO of Chewy.com, an online pet food store. They also appointed ex-Amazon director Jenna Owens as the new chief operating officer (COO), one of several recent hires from the technology giant.

The facility in Pennsylvania will likely help with GameStop’s transition into online e-commerce – after all, gamers have been slowly shifting towards digital and online ordering over the last few console generations, and the recent pandemic has sped this up recently.

Do you think that GameStop can shake off its negative reputation and thrive again as a great place to get games, thanks to its new facility in Pennsylvania? Leave us a comment down below.
