Valve has done quite a bit for the PC gaming industry. And they’ve gone so far as to create a handheld device. Only just recently announced, the Steam Deck already has scalpers hunting for cash. But, pre-orders for the Steam Deck are still available. So what’s happening now?

Steam Deck Scalpers Head to eBay

When the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X were first released, scalpers came out of the woodwork. People attempted to upsell the consoles at twice the price. And some may have even tripled it. But, the same thing is now being seen with Valve’s newest device. eBay is known as a place to get many products. Those often include products such as gaming consoles and accessories. And despite pre-orders for the Steam Deck being available, it’s hasn’t deterred any scalpers of the Steam Deck.

Signing up for pre-registration for a unit is only $5. It sounds easy enough, right? The first day that Valve accepted sign-ups, users reported receiving error messages. And in virtually less than a day, eBay received an influx of insanely priced listings. Scalpers of the Steam Deck have also included in their listings “ships December 2021.” But Valve has already contradicted these listings. While people can put down $5 for a pre-registration spot, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee anything. The company has stated they will try to convert those reservations to orders.

Steam Deck scalpers can list prices as they so choose. But, with Valve essentially shooting them down, it’ll be interesting to see how it affects listings of the products on eBay. Will people still throw money at those postings? Or will they wise up and stay informed by Valve directly?

If you plan on ordering the product, ensure you go through the proper channels. If the product is listed on eBay for more than $649, you’re likely to be scammed out of cash.

What do you think you think of this newest attempt at scalping? Will it work? Or will scalpers of the Steam Deck be disappointed in the lack of sales? Let me know in the comments!
