Microsoft executive Kudo Tsunoda gave an interview with Official Xbox Magazine (via GamesRadar). He had choice words for Rare’s new pirate MMO, referring to it as “the best game Rare has ever made.” That’s a lot to live up to.
Tsunoda gave gamers an insight as to what Sea of Thieves would offer, other than what was shown during Microsoft’s E3 demo.
“I think with Sea of Thieves, what you’re really going to see as you find out more about the game is that it’s also about allowing people to create their own gaming memories” Tsunoda said. “It’s about enabling people to create their own stories through limitless possibilities, and I think that’s what Rare has always done a great job of historically; it is great at creating these super emotional memories and attachments that people have to games.“
He went to further explain the user-generated aspect of the game.
“I think what you’re gonna see in Sea of Thieves as we go forward and start talking more about the game is how [the studio is] enabling that kind of player-generated emotional and memory-driven stories that can happen within a game to happen within Sea of Thieves,” he said. “And I think that’s what Rare does well. That’s what we’re going to keep having them doing in the future. And Sea of Thieves is gonna be the best game that Rare has ever made.“
Tsunoda also gave his thoughts on Microsoft’s HoloLens, backwards compatibility, and the pro controller.
Sea of Thieves is developer Rare getting away from creating Kinect titles, with a brand new intellectual property. The developer recently released the Rare Replay collection, which was a compilation of various Rare games from their 30 year career.
Sea of Thieves is set to release in 2016, for Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms.
