Lionhead Studios has revealed that the team is not currently working on a numbered sequel to the Fable franchise at the moment. Right now, all efforts are currently being put into the development of Fable Legends.

The studio revealed this piece of information when responding to a fan question on Twitter.  “We’re not working on a Fable 4, Fable Legends is our priority and will be for the foreseeable future,” Lionhead Studios responded.

It has been five years since the last Fable game, Fable 3, was released and over two years since the announcement of Fable Legends. Legends won’t be the standard game that the series is known for. Instead, the game is a free to play game that will feature a story’s worth of quests when it officially launches.

Fable Legends will see four Heroes working together against one villain.

Fable Legends is based around the idea of four Heroes taking on one villain with each role being filled by either a player or an AI. The same game experience is possible regardless of multiplayer or single player (with four AI). All of the game’s story and quests can be played single player, using AI heroes as sidekicks or enemies. It’s possible to play through the game’s content as either a Hero or as a Villain.

For those waiting for Fable 4, get comfortable and be prepared to wait for a while. Fable Legends is still currently in beta. With the long term plan that Lionhead has planned, it seems like the game is going to stick around for a while.
