The trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming film The Last Duel was released today. The The Last Duel trailer takes a point of pride that the film is based on a true story. The film is based on a book of the same name that was written by Eric Jager. The Last Duel seems to promise brutal fights and a stacked cast including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Jodie Comer. Not only do the famous actors appear in the film but also share writing credits. This is the first time they have joined to write a film since Good Will Hunting.

The trailer dropped on Twitter today pulls back in contrast to The Last Duel‘s official trailer from a couple of months ago. This new trailer displays little of the plot and instead celebrates the fanfare surrounding the film. Quotes from publications smash across the screen over brutal fights. This film promises to deliver. Synopses state that this film revolves around King Charles VI and a dispute with his squire. He charges Matt Damon’s Jean de Carrouges to resolve this with a duel.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are not the only exciting cast members in this new film. Adam Driver has been cast as Jacques LeGris while Jodie Comer will appear as Marguerite de Carrouges. Most recently, Comer has gained notoriety as the sociopathic assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve. However, The Last Duel is not Comer’s first foray into medieval storytelling.
Comer has many credits in British filmmaking but one of her greatest credits was playing Elizabeth of York in an adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s historical novel, The White Princess. This was an addition to Starz’s The White Queen where Rebecca Ferguson portrayed Elizabeth of York’s mother, Queen Elizabeth. Jodie Comer’s career has flourished and it seems that The Last Duel will be a triumph. The film is directed by Ridley Scott and set to premiere in theaters on October 15.
