ID Software, the famous DOOM developers, has recently put out job advertisements for various roles in working on a long-running iconic action FPS project that they currently have in development. ID Software, who are the studio behind the DOOM, Rage and Quake games are looking for multiple roles, including a Senior Technical Animator, a Skybox Artist, an Environment Concept Artist as well as other technical positions. More notably, the art position that is being posted will be “responsible for the visualization and implementation of AAA quality sci-fi and fantasy environmental vistas and skyboxes.”
Whilst these job listings don’t specify what game they will be working on specifically, the words action FPS by ID Software narrows down the possibilities significantly, primarily to either DOOM or Quake.
The DOOM developers released Eternal back in 2020 and were met with positive reviews and even released two pieces of DLC for the game, the latest being The Ancient Gods Part 2, as well as upgrade ports for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The last new game in the Quake series, Quake Champions was met with a muted player response and eventually went free-to-play in 2018.
ID Software also released work on the Quake franchise in the not-too-distant past, with a remastered version of the original Quake for modern platforms was released to coincide with the game’s 25th anniversary. The iconic shooter was updated for modern platforms, with up to 4K resolution and widescreen support on compatible platforms, enhanced models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and more to improve the experience of the game for players.
The latest content for DOOM Eternal included the addition of a horde mode for the game, which you can learn all about at our article on the mode here. Hopefully, we hear more soon about the FPS project ID Software is working on.
