After Metal Gear Onlineย became available last week, players of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Painโ€˜s multiplayer mode reported a number of problems ranging from a lack of public games to not being awarded XP in matches due to hosting issues. Konami is addressing Metal Gear Online’s troubled launch with an apology and free in-game boosts, which any player should receive upon logging in on the game. In your account you find 3,000 bonus GP (the in-game currency for purchasing items) and you should level up faster if you play this week.

“Since release, the game suffered frequent instances of difficulties maintaining an online connection, and other associated problems such as lag when switching between menu screens,” Konami states in its apology. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. The game is currently running in a much more stable manner, but to make amends for the frustrating difficulties users have dealt with so far, we have distributed bonus items, etc. to all users.” The company also notes that items meant to be given away as part of a Tokyo Game Show promotion should now be correctly distributed.

While it is appealing that Konami will be attempting to make things right with fans by providing bonuses, Konami is under a lot of heat from fans for its recent missteps. The biggest is probably the departureย of Hideo Kojima,ย followed by Julien Merceronโ€™s high-profile resignation from the company. The next is most likely the publisherโ€™s decision to cancel Silent Hillsย despite havingย co-director Guillermo del Toro on board, with Guillermo remarking that the cancellationย “makes no sense at all”.

Metal Gear Online is available now in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Stay tuned for details!

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
