2021 film festivals like Cannes and Toronto have been adjusting to the ever-changing climate. Director Spike Lee accidentally revealed the Cannes Palme d’Or winner early; just one of the biggest awards of the festival…no big deal. In Lee’s defense, he is not a French speaker, so it’s an easy mistake to make. Despite the slip-ups, the film festivals are chugging on. Kenneth Branaugh and Julia Ducournau rake in awards. Many international film festivals like Sundance, Cannes, and Toronto require daily saliva tests just to enter. There have been some festivals that went online, so the festivities could still continue. Others made strict changes and greatly limited their capacities. 2021 International film festivals like Toronto and Venice are the ones that chose to proceed with in-person awards but limited their attendance. All the precautions are so the talent, staff, and attendees can be safe and enjoy the showings.

Creators like Julia Ducournau and Kenneth Branagh Are Making Waves with Their Work

"Titane", directed by Julia Ducournau has won awards in the 2021 international film festival circuit.

Kenneth Branaugh has wowed audiences once again with his pictureย Belfast. The film has already won the Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award. The Royal Academy for Dramatic Art alum has impressed audiences with his writing, acting, and directing. Kenneth Branaugh’s work has awed critics in the international film festival circuit before.ย Belfast is based on Branaugh’s experiences from his childhood through the perspective of a nine-year-old boy. The director and writer Julia Ducournau made history when she won a top award at Cannes, solo. She received the award for her latest film Titane. The film follows a woman that has some strange adventures after a metal plate is put in her head. Movies can be acknowledged on an international scale with these film festivals. They are making history and headlines because of their adaptability to proceed with the many obstacles they face.

Keep an eye on films likeย Titane andย Belfast; theyย could show up at the Academy Awards.
