Without an official release date for Chinese theaters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in conjunction with Disney, has found a more forceful way to promote their new film. One of China’s most enduring cultural milestones is a 13,000-mile long wall that has protected the Northern approach into China from various attackers throughout history. Now, in a bid to conflate a monumental wonder of the world with the upcoming Star Wars film, 500 motionless Stormtroopers were stationed along a steep portion of the Great Wall. Entertainment Weekly reported, “Four giant Chinese characters that translate to ‘The Force Awakens’ were lit up on the Great Wall”. Classy.

China is the world’s fastest growing entertainment market — a pretty simple equation in the eyes of Hollywood and Disney. With this massive display preceding the release of the newest Star Wars trailer in China, all eyes will be on this emerging market as we approach December.
