Bob Saget’s Life & Career

Robert Lane Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 17, 1956. Benjamin, his father, worked as a supermarket executive, while his mother, Rosalyn, was a hospital administrator. Saget would eventually live in California before moving back to Philadelphia, where he would graduate from Abington Senior High School in 1975. His Honors English teacher is credited with putting Saget on his path after convincing him to follow a career in film as opposed to becoming what he initially wanted to be; a doctor.

He would graduate from Temple University’s film school in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts. But before he could get his career on track, he had a gangrenous appendix taken out, which nearly killed him.

The future legendary comedian, Bob Saget, initially started his career working as a member of CBS’s The Morning Program in early 1987, but it was only a short stint as Saget was cast as Danny Tanner in the popular sitcom, Full House, which ran from 1987 – 1995. But in 1989, The Full House star also became the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos and pulled double duty as he worked both Full House and AFHV simultaneously, and he even made a surprise appearance at the 20th-anniversary AFHV special alongside host at the time, Tom Bergeron.

After pulling double duty, he started directing films, including Norm Mcdonald’s Dirty Work, which also stars Dave Chappelle and even had a cameo in Chappelle’s Half Baked.

In the 2000s, he would go back to his roots as he would star in another sitcom called Raising Dad, hosted a game show, and even played to the voice of future Ted Mosby for How I Met Your Mother. Saget would also appear in a Broadway play, continue to write and direct movies, and published a book up until his most recent success, a podcast titled Bob Saget’s Here For You that he launched in 2020.

The comedian’s last Tweet came just after he finished his set at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Jacksonville:

Loved tonight’s show @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. Appreciative audience. Thanks again to @RealTimWilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this shit. Check https://t.co/nqJyTiiezU for my dates in 2022. pic.twitter.com/pEgFuXxLd3
