Battleborn,ย the latest from Gearbox Software, the developers behind theย Borderlandsย series, is an upcoming first-person shooter that mixes in certain elements from Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games.ย Battlebornย features Gearbox’s signature style of writing, featuring plenty of quirky characters and funny dialogue. The game will have a standalone experience, allowing players to play through the game’s campaign alone, or one with friends, featuring the typical drop-in/drop-out gameplay with up to four friends that Gearbox has made famous through theirย Borderlandsย games. What’s interesting aboutย Battleborn,ย though, is the fact that it boasts a whopping 25 different playable characters. Gearbox has said that each of these will be fully fleshed out with their own unique personalities, abilities and play styles.

The big draw for Gearbox this time around is the multiplayer experience, however. Battleborn will support 5v5 Player vs. Player matches. Several game modes have been announced, including Incursion, a tower defense type mode where each team must capture the other team’s base without letting theirs be taken,ย Devastation,ย a typical capture the flag game mode, andย Meltdown,ย an interesting game mode where each team has to escort friendly bots to the center of the map to earn points, with the winner being the team with the most points at the end of the match. What sets the apart from other competitive FPS games is the inclusion of friendly AI. Each team has their own army of bots that can be lead to attack the opposing team, leaving players not only defending against each other but against enemy AI as well. This is somewhat similar to other MOBA games, such asย Awesomnauts.
Battlebornย is set to launch on February 9, 2015, on PS4,
