Hey, do you guys remember Titanfall? You know, it’s that mech-based multiplayer shooter that had fantastic gameplay and a community that died out faster than the hype for the Ouya. Well, it turns out that the former Call of Duty developers Respawn Entertainment are putting their flagship franchise on a mobile platform. Partnering with mobile developer Particle City and the popular free-to-play publisher Nexon; Titanfall seems to set up for a multi-year deal. One of Respawn Entertainment’s co-founders, Vince Zampella, released a statement in their press release saying, “Nexon’s unrivaled publishing network and free-to-play expertise will allow Titanfall to reach new global audiences. And with Particle City, we are closely collaborating to create all-new standalone games with original gameplay experiences that expand the Titanfall universe to players everywhere.”

Similarly, Nexon’s  President and Chief Executive Officer Owen Mahoney explained his own excitement for bringing Titanfall to the mobile scene. “As a player and fan of Titanfall, I am delighted to be working with the talented team at Respawn to bring the world of Titanfall to mobile and tablet. Working closely with our partners at Respawn and Particle City we intend to build on the original game’s success and introduce millions of mobile gamers to the rich Titanfall universe.” Given the free-to-play market, one can only expect a lot of in-app purchases, time gates, and other freemium elements. While I would like to see the world of Titanfall expanded more, the push to mobile is rather off-putting. With the sequel to Titanfall set to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in the future, it will be interesting to see if this mobile game ties the two core games together.

Titanfall for mobile devices is set to release sometime in 2016.
