A new fighter has emerged from the arcade version of Pokken Tournament. The black Mewtwo sporting yellow crystals from his body has thus been dubbed Black Mewtwo by fans.
Shown in gameplay footage courtesy of Japanese website NicoNico, the clip shows a player using Gengar duking it out with Black Mewtwo. Despite not much shown, the new version of Mewtwo uses lots of physical attacks, not something common for psychic type Pokemon. Upon further inspection, Dark Mewtwo shows many similarities between itself and Mega Mewtwo X. The gauntlet-like arms, thicker legs and shoulder protrusions have sparked fans to speculate Mega Mewtwo X and Dark Mewtwo being one of the same.
After the fight, the video briefly shows the stage undergoing a drastic change, all the vibrant yellow crystals (the same as the ones decorating Dark Mewtwo’s body) and purple shards crumbling as Dark Mewtwo reverts back to classic Mewtwo.
Pokken Tournament is a 3D fighting game developed by Namco Bandai in collaboration with The Pokemon Company. Created by the team known for the long-running Tekken franchise, Pokken sees Pokemon favorites battle in a fighting game format. Pokken Tournament is currently a Japanese arcade exclusive, with an international WiiU launch slated for early 2016.
