The film is directed by Duncan Jones and produced by Legendary Pictures alongside Blizzard Entertainment. The plot seems to follow the original game’s storyline from ‘Warcraft Orcs & Humans’, where the Orcs flee their home world of Draenor through the Dark Portal to the human inhabited world of Azeroth. The movie includes one of the most significant characters within the Warcraft universe, the Orc named Gul’dan who appears as an antagonist throughout Warcraft’s lore.
Director Duncan Jones was on stage introducing the trailer, he said in a recent interview that “it a priority for him to get it right” and that the film is “based in Blizzard lore”. In a recent panel, it was said that the movie will be trying to avoid making the human or orc sides good and bad and that both factions have good and bad elements within them. There will also be Easter eggs within the film that hardcore fans will recognise and for people new to the Warcraft universe they will enjoy the lush world that has been created.
