Congratulations to Microsoft and Windows for officially turning 30 years old! After numerous iterations, from 1.0 to 10, 30 years is definitely something to admire.

Microsoft set out to make the one and only 16-bit graphic user interface (or GUI) for your home, and as you’ll see below, at an affordable $99USD price tag. Windows was announced to the public in 1983 and just two years later it was time to bring the advanced technology to homes around the world.

At the time, it was the best solution to using MS-DOS systems. DOS was run with complicated prompts and commands that could be quite difficult to master and use for the “average Joe or Jane.” In comes Windows 1.0, touting to be the best technology for anyone to use in their home.

Included in the original release were actually some great apps that are still used today like Calendar, Calculator, and one of the first “in the box” games included with a Windows system, Reversi!

What are some of your favorite memories of Microsoft Windows? What was your first jump into the PC and operating system world? For me, it was the classic 95.

From the wee age of 6 he made his way to a Canadian Tire, purchased a SNES for $200 in in-store credit money (Canadian Tire money for Canadians out there), and hasn't looked back! He loves the classics like Donkey Kong, Mario, and Roller Coaster Tycoon, but is deep into the new age of gaming with Heroes of the Storm, Apex Legends, and indies like Thomas Was Alone, and Mark of the Ninja.
