The Callisto Protocol is an upcoming survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. Of course, if you’re a fan of the survival horror genre, you may have already known that. What you don’t know, however, is the game’s release date. Until now, that is. A new trailer for The Callisto Protocolย dropped today during Sony’s State of Play. The trailer featured new gameplay footage forย The Callisto Protocol, as well as a release date: December 2, 2022.

Here’s what you should know before The Callisto Protocol’s release date

Maybe you’re new to the survival horror genre, or perhapsย The Callisto Protocolย simply hasn’t crossed your radar. Whatever the case may be, here’s what you should know aboutย The Callisto Protocol before its December 2 release date. For starters, here’s a brief summary from the game’s official website:

“Set on Jupiterโ€™s moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror. The game challenges players to escape the maximum security Black Iron Prison and uncover its terrifying secrets. A blend of horror, action, and immersive storytelling, The Callisto Protocol game aims to set a new bar for horror in interactive entertainment.”

And here’s something else you might not know:ย The Callisto Protocolย was originally going to take place in the same universe as PUBG, but that isn’t the case anymore. Check out this Tweet from Striking Distance Studios founder and CEO Glen Schofield.

FYI @CallistoTheGame is its own story and world. It no longer takes place in the PUBG Universe. It was originally part of the PUBG timeline, but grew into its own world. PUBG is awesome, &we will still have little surprises for fans, but TCP is its own world, story and universe.

Last, but not least, if that new trailer reminded you of Dead Space, there’s a good reason for that. Schofield was one of the designers behindย Dead Space. If the gritty, gory State of Play trailer is anything to go by, it seems like The Callisto Protocolย is shaping up to be a spiritual successor to the Dead Space games. Are you excited?
