Developer Tiny Roar and publisher Assemble Entertainment are close to launching their sci-fi action RPG, XEL. In fact, the new title will be coming next month to PC and Nintendo Switch. Steam users will have access to XEL starting on July 12th; Nintendo Switch owners can start playing it on July 14th. The announcement comes in the form of the XEL “Downfall” Release Date Trailer, which briefly sheds light on the game’s narrative.
PC and Switch Players Crash Onto XEL
Something strange is afoot on the planet of XEL. After crashlanding onto the alien planet, Reid can’t seem to remember her past. Now feeling some connection with XEL, Reid must use her powers to jump through space and time to get to the bottom of the situation. She’ll also meet some wonderful folks along the way, coupled with the expected antagonistic encounters.
XEL is presented in a top-down 3D fashion, a modern representation of classic Legend of Zelda titles. With this in mind, Reid will embark on various quests and dungeon dives; she’ll be able to upgrade her weapons and equipment to stay up to par with the growing perils of XEL. In addition to her expanding arsenal, Reid’s sidekick, Chap, will be by her side during this fantasy quest.
While the release date trailer is short, it does showcase the striking world of XEL and its inhabitants. It’s also accompanied by two voice-overs: one female and one male. It’s safe to presume the female is Reid, given her purposeful dialogue in the footage, but we can’t decipher who the other one is. Check out the trailer here to see what the teams have cooked up.
As a quick reminder, XEL will be coming to PC and Switch on July 12th and July 14th, respectively. You may wishlist the title now, but there’s also a demo on Steam that players can try out.
