The Quarry: Can You Save Ryan?

In The Quarry, players have a few opportunities to save the counselors if they make the right choices. If you want to earn some Achievements or you simply want to keep as many people alive as possible in The Quarry, then you need to save Ryan. This isn’t until late in the game, so you have some time before you have to pull Ryan out of the fire.

Can You Save Ryan in The Quarry?

Ryan Erzahler is one of the 9 counselors at Hackett’s Quarry, and you’re able to control him throughout Chapters 1-9. However, it isn’t until you get to Chapter 9 that Ryan has a few possibilities to die. Thankfully, with the right choices, he doesn’t have to die.

And it’s worth it to save Ryan in The Quarry for all you Achievement hunters.

So, how exactly do you save Ryan? Well, let’s start with tracking the exact moments when he can die. These occur in both Chapter 9 and Chapter 10.

Avoiding Ryan’s Death in Chapter 9

There are 4 instances where Ryan can die in Chapter 9.

First up, no matter what happens, Bobby will stab Ryan. Once Ryan runs away, DO NOT PULL THE KNIFE OUT. If you do, Ryan will die of blood loss, and, of course, you can no longer save him in The Quarry.

Next, Ryan heads to Constance’s and Jedediah’s bedroom. In there, you can find Evidence, Clues, and Tarot Cards. Just remember that Bobby is still after him. You want to check the empty cabinet and then interact with the locked door.

Now, Bobby’s coming in. Choose HIDE and select IN CABINET. Don’t forget to HOLD YOUR BREATH UNTIL IT’S SAFE.

Once that’s done, you’ll get some QTE, so succeed at them all until Ryan hides inside the wall. You can save Ryan here in The Quarry by succeeding at more QTEs. You must HOLD YOUR BREATH again, not releasing until Bobby leaves.

Ryan will enter an empty room, and he’s soon followed by Bobby. Now, you can use the knife to stab Bobby. Laura comes to finally scare Bobby off.

At this point, Ryan is now dying from his wound. However, Laura offers to bite him. If you want to save Ryan in The Quarry, ACCEPT LAURA’S BITE.

The final point in Chapter 9 where Ryan can die is the standoff with Bobby, Laura, Travis, and Werewolf Chris. Be sure to SHOOT CHRIS, the monster on the left. Killing him is the only way to save everyone as his death ends their werewolf curse.

Now, here’s where it’s tricky. You must have made the right decisions to save Laura if you want to save Ryan at this point in The Quarry. This is because if Laura shot Travis in jail previously, he will KILL LAURA AND RYAN. So, you will want to drug Travis instead.

Saving Ryan in Chapter 10 of The Quarry

While driving in the car, you’ll play as Laura and Silas will attack. Select TAKE WHEEL and hit all those QTEs. Otherwise, Ryan will die.

The final thing is to beat Silas. When Laura is offered the vial of werewolf blood, select GIVE TO RYAN. This will keep him safe during the confrontation. Shoot the White Wolf, and you’ve managed to save Ryan and cure the curse in The Quarry.

Alternatively, you can spare the White Wolf, who will then kill everyone except for Ryan because of the blood. Either way, he’s saved.
