Over at Paradox, days of the week take on a very special meaning. From weekly dev diaries to Hearts of Iron IV’s  “World War Wednesdays”, you can always expect to have something to read, watch, or play the Paradox team.

Even if the title “World War Wednesdays” sounds a little… terrifying. I could only imagine the world where weekly wars broke out that engulfed the entire globe in flames. Pacifists be damned!

From now til the unforeseeable future, Paradox will be playing Hearts of Iron IV over on their Twitch account every Wednesday. But, in case you can’t be prompt for our wonderfully Central European Time Zoned friends, Paradox will archive all of their videos over on their YouTube page, Paradox Extra.

This week we have the first video in a, most likely, long-running series. We are introduced to our players: Jakob Munthe (Brand Manager playing Nazi Germany) squares off against Johan Andersson (EVP of Game Development playing Imperial England)

Watching the game live streamed is a great way to see the new tech system as well as the overhauled map. Every detail of this game has been tweaked or completely reworked — making Hearts of Iron IV complex without adding unnecessary difficulty. Also, we can see the new country-specific focus tree. This way, you won’t be running into the problem of having essentially the same military units and techs as every other country. This minutia is what I kill for.

There is a lot covered in this video, so kick your feet back, grab your favorite war mongering drink of choice, and watch these two armchair generals begin the first phases of the largest war this planet has ever seen.

What do you think about Hearts of Iron IV? Will this new iteration break down the barrier from hardcore wargamer to a more accessible affair? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
