This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information.

What Remains of Edith Finch is an appropriately weird title for a very surreal, and dream-like game. In What Remains of Edith Finch, you play as the titular character, Edith Finch, who is returning to her ancestral childhood home.

Many of the Finch’s expire conspicuously young. Once dead, the family bolts up and seals their entire room. As Edith Finch, you explore the old house and manage to make it into the rooms of the dead. This is where you will, then, get to experience their stories.

The Nerd Stash has reported on this game before.  The popular title was developed by Giant Sparrow, the company behind the wonderfully quirky painting based indie game, The Unfinished Swan.  There is, unfortunately, still no solid release date for What Remains of Edith Finch, outside of sometime in 2016. So, the freshest updates come from the various news outlets, who got to speak to the games developers, at the PlayStation Experience 2015.

Kotaku’s encounter with the game went as follows:

“The story I played (and watched a developer play) at PSX was about a young girl in the 1940s. She awoke in the middle of the night hungry—ravenously so, violently so. First, she ate moldy gerbil food. Then mistletoe. Then a whole tube of toothpaste. It was weird. It got weirder. She transformed into a cat, climbed out onto a tree, and tried to eat a bird. After that, she became a rabbit-hunting owl. Then a shark. Then, finally, some sort of revolting tentacle monster.”

What other dreamscapes have these developers concocted for us to play through I wonder?

Are you excited by the concept of playing through dream worlds of the dead?  Are you a fan of The Unfinished Swan, and you cannot wait to see what else that games developer can do?  Tell us about it below.
