This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information.

The new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was due to be shown along with the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but instead, 20th Century Fox decided to give everyone an early Christmas present today. The trailer reveals more about Apocalypse, the main villain, and who he will be working with as his Four Horsemen. In addition, we get to see James McAvoy finally embrace the full Professor X look.

X-Men: Apocalypse
Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) returns to the big screen yet again, this time with a lot less hair.

The trailer opens with a lot of images focused on destruction, as apparently seen by a young Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner (aka Sansa Stark in the hit series “Game of Thrones”). She must already by at Xavier’s mansion since he is there to comfort her. At this point, the Professor must have already opened his school. Then the trailer shows a lot of Apocalypse (Oscar Issac) monologuing and building his team of Four Horsemen, which includes Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Angel (Ben Hardy).

X-Men: Apocalypse
Apocalypse (Oscar Issac) gets his first villain-esque monologue in today’s trailer.

Not only does the trailer show many favorites from “First Class” and “Days of Future Past” returning, there are also a few new characters. Jubilee, played by Lana Candor, is one of the more exciting additions; she’s known for being able to shoot exploding energy plasmoids from her hands. Bryan Singer has also brought a young Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) into the series, which is something fans have been waiting for since his character’s short involvement in “X2: X-Men United.”

What do you think of the new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for more information about this film in the future.
