Going to be completely honest here; I found the last Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film to be nothing but a cheap cash grab and overall unenjoyable film. Hearing there was another one on the way, I was probably as skeptical as the next person. Yet, with the new trailer, something felt very different about this movie in general. It had a sense of fun, respect, and understanding of who the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are. But I am still guarded with a film like this. This is why I find it interesting that actress Megan Fox of all people has come to the defense of this latest turtle feature in an interview with MTV News. During the featurette, Fox commented on how this film will be far different than the one we received last year.

They hired a director who’s a superfan of the Turtles, they figured the tone of the movie should be funny. This isn’t Turtles in Gotham City, that’s the wrong way to take it. -Megan Fox

It seems the new director, Dave Green, is trying to stick closer to the actual source material for the Ninja Turtles as opposed to the last film’s director, Jonathan Liebesman. Superhero films, these days, have been going in one of two routes as defined by both Marvel and DC.  It seems you get either the gritty dark version or the fast-paced, witty films with the last TMNT film falling somewhere oddly in between. Thankfully it seems that both Dave Green and FOX are deciding to take this franchise into a new direction, allowing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to have more of that classic cartoon feel. I’m sure many of us are skeptical of what will come of this, as turning our childhood staples into movie properties has been largely a failure (Looking at you, Battleship). We will have to wait and see, but, for now, take a small sigh of relief.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is set to release June 3rd, 2016.

Are you optimistic about the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film? Let us know in the comments.
