Focus Features has released the trailer for Spoiler Alert, which shows Jim Parsons playing entertainment journalist Michael Ausiello. The film based on his memoir will follow the tragic love story of the journalist who saw his partner, Kit Cowan, slowly die of a terminal diagnosis of cancer over 11 months. The film will hit theaters on December 2.
The Spoiler Alert trailer starts off as a typical rom-com to set up the relationship. Slowly, it starts to reveal itself as a love story as it goes into how the couple coped with the cancer diagnosis of Cowan. The film is directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick). David Marshall Grant (A Million Little Things) and Dan Savage (It Gets Better) penned the script based on the 2017 memoir of the same name. The book details the 13 years the two were together and the last year of his partner’s life before he died of the rare form of cancer in February 2015.

Jim Parsons will be stepping into the shoes of a successful entertainment journalist, Michael Ausiello. He was a senior writer at TV Guide and had a stint at Entertainment Weekly. In 2011, he started his own outlet, TVLine in 2011. He will be an executive producer on the upcoming film.
Spoiler Alert marks one of the few major leading roles Jim Parsons has had since the end of The Big Bang Theory. Since then, the actor has starred in Hidden Figures, Wish I Was Here, Young Sheldon, Hollywood, and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
