“Hit an opponent while Wolfscent is active” is a Fortnitemares quest in Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4 that tasks participants with attacking other players after activating the werewolf power received from an Altercation Altar. Wolfscent is a new mechanic that grants users the ability to see the positions nearby enemy combatants through solid objects and surfaces. The users’ screens will become somewhat blurry, but other player characters will glow with a purple mist pulsing circles. This visual mechanic helps pinpoint where the targets are located. Accordingly, Wolfscent-active players must pursue their prey and strike them once with their Howler Claws to complete the challenge.

August 26, 2024 Update: The Wolfscent is no longer available in Fortnite.

To activate the Wolfscent ability in Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4, players must find and dance on an Alteration Alter. To perform this action, stand on one of the nine altars found across the map and use a Dance Emote. This Ritual Dance will grant players an active Wolfscent and the Howler Claws used for melee combat.

The Wolfscent ability in Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4 can only be active for 20 seconds, after which it will enter a 20-second cooldown. Once the cooldown has finished, players can activate the tracking ability again to hunt down players. Unlike the Kamehameha from the Dragon Ball Z collab event, Wolfscent can be used indefinitely until the player switches their weaponry or has been eliminated in a match.

Fortunately, players do not need to kill opponents while Wolfscent is active to complete the Fortnitemares challenge in Fortnite. Even if combatants manage to strike their foe once with the Howler Claws, the quest will be rendered complete. Nevertheless, players must approach their enemies stealthily; otherwise, they might get taken down before getting within melee range. Furthermore, keep in mind that other players can hear the loud howl that users unleash when activating Wolfscent. In other words, triggering this ability lets other combatants know the position of the werewolf-powered user, compelling them to be extra cautious of their surroundings. Accordingly, one of the easiest ways to complete “Hit an opponent while Wolfscent is active” is by landing at an Alteration Alter and immediately doing the Ritual Dance. Most players will still be finding loot, giving quest participants time to quickly lash a few strikes with their claws.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
