While the Call of Duty franchise has always had its fair share of solo players, playing with friends and acquaintances via crossplay multiplayer is undoubtedly a central element of Modern Warfare 2. The numerous fans who participated in the game’s Beta will likely know how multiplayer works. However, the title’s official release on October 28, 2022, brought in many new players or returning fans who need help understanding how they can play with their friends. Fortunately, the process is incredibly straightforward and only requires a few buttons for those on the same platforms. A single extra step is required for users who seek to form a cross-platform group with their friends.

Inviting & Playing with Friends via Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2
To invite and add friends via same-platform multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2, players must open the in-game options by selecting the six-square icon in the upper-right corner of the main menu. Next, go to the Social tab and choose the users on the Friends List of the same platform.
For clarification, “Friends List” refers to those who are friends with an individual on the platform with which they are running Modern Warfare 2, for instance. Steam Friends will appear in the in-game Friends List for PC users, and Xbox Friends will show up for those playing on Xbox. As mentioned above, it is possible to experience crossplay in Modern Warfare 2 with those on a different platform, but they will initially not appear on the Friends List found in the Social options. It is an extra step, but it is very simple to add your friends with different consoles to your match.
Modern Warfare 2 can experience multiplayer with their friends on a different platform by adding their acquaintances’ Activision ID to “Add Friends.” Players can view their own ID by opening the Options menu and navigating to Settings. Scroll to the bottom icon to view Account & Network, and the Activision Account should appear at the very top. Selecting this element will reveal an individual’s Activision ID, which they can share with those on other platforms. On the other hand, if fans receive Activision IDs from their friends, they can select the “Add Friends” option in the Friends tab mentioned above.
