There’s been speculation and rumors swirling the internet for over six months that Darth Vader is returning to the Star Wars universe. With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being set within the world of the original trilogy, more rumors have surfaced that “confirm” Vader will be back, and in his original form.
According to Making Star Wars:
… on good authority that the Darth Vader costume as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope has been meticulously recreated to match A New Hope perfectly.
To take the info even further, it’s also reported that original voice actor James Earl Jones will return for the film to reprise his role as the Dark Lord. Original Star Wars sculptor Brian Muir has already begun work on Rogue One. The rumor also states that Muir and his team are “very impressed with the work.”
With a lot of the original hands being on the project, it seems like things will go well and we may get a great new but familiar look from a Vader appearance. All reports up to this point have pointed to Vader being a minor character in the new anthology film, maybe appearing more as a cameo than a critical part of the storyline. Making Star Wars also writes:
At this time we believe Darth Vader is being played by a new person that has never played him before
