In a surprise trailer showing the film 13 Hours, 10 Cloverfield Lane was announced by Bad Robot as a new film in the Cloverfield universe. It is the first major film directorial debut for director Dan Trachtenberg who is known for his directing of the short film Portal: No Escape, set in Valve’s award-winning game Portal’s universe. Like its predecessor, the trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane shows only minimal plot ideas such as a young man and woman (played by John Gallagher Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Winstead) living in an underground “Doomsday Shelter” with an older man (played by John Goodman). Early reports indicate the young woman was rescued from a car accident by Goodman’s character and brought into the shelter, the reason why is unsaid be it his paranoia of the outside world or possibly getting away from something bigger. The trailer alludes to something big being on the outside that is able to shake the ceiling of the shelter but like Cloverfield, everything said about 10 Cloverfield Lane has been cryptic and only the barest of story elements have made it out of Bad Robot Productions.
