Kratos Unlocking Access to Sanctuary Grove in God of War Ragnarok
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

One named location that has lightly bugged many players during their adventure in God of War: Ragnarok is a small clearing south of the Lake of Nine in Midgard — Sanctuary Grove. This location’s main attraction that likely caught fans’ interest is the colossal tortoise that can even be seen from the overhead view of the in-game map. Those familiar with the game’s prequel in 2018 will recognize this titan-sized reptile as Chaurli, the friendly creature that once housed Freya’s past home. Of course, much has changed in Midgard since the death of Baldur, but there are presumably no fans who wish no more than to visit their favorite giant tortoise.

Unlocking Sanctuary Grove in God of War Ragnarok

Kratos Arriving in Sanctuary Grove in God of War Ragnarok

While exploring Midgard, many players might have spent a good deal of time attempting to reach Sanctuary Grove in God of War: Ragnarok, but to no avail. The reason for their failure is that this location on the map does not become accessible until Odin has been defeated. Simply put, players must complete Ragnarok‘s main story to unlock Sanctuary Grove.

Based on gameplay footage by YouTube content creator No-Nonsense Guides, below is a list of steps required to unlock Sanctuary Grove in God of War: Ragnarok:

  • Step 1: Complete “The Realms at War,” the seventeenth and final main story quest of Ragnarok, during which Kratos must face Odin.
  • Step 2: Fast travel to the Mystic Gateway at Sindri’s House and hurl the Leviathan Axe at the wind chimes to summon Ratatoskr.
  • Step 3: After a short dialogue sequence with the squirrel, he will leave Kratos with a Pouch of Yggdrasil Seeds, a magical artifact that automatically unlocks all Mystic Gateways across the map, including those that players have never visited.
  • Step 4: Return to the Mystic Gateway, interact with the gateway icon on the map within Sanctuary Grove, and travel to the new location in God of War: Ragnarok.

Sanctuary Grove is a small zone and should only take players less than five minutes to explore thoroughly. Nevertheless, it is a nice chunk of post-game content and bonus lore that fans can enjoy after they have completed the main storyline.
