Despite being shaped like a literal pinecone, Pineco is not a Grass-type but a Bug-type Bagworm Pokemon inย Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. After reaching Level 31, this Bagworm pocket monster evolves into Forretress, a Bug- and Steel-type Pokemon that boasts one of the highest Defense stats in the game. Likewise, Pineco has a decent base Defense, which can come in handy for tanking enemy Moves during combat. Specifically, this pinecone-shaped creature is notably resistant to Grass-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks. While this Pokemon’s evolved Forretress form can be found in one region in Paldea, Pineco inhabitsย multiple locations across the world map.ย
Before attempting to catch a Wild Pineco inย Pokรฉmon Scarlet and Violet, players are advised to unlock Dash Mode for their Koraidon or Miraidon. This ability enables Trainers to ram trees and potentially knock down a hiding Pineco onto the ground. Dash Mode is an upgrade that becomes available once players haveย defeated the Stony Cliff Titan: Klawf.
While Pineco occasionally spawns on the forest floors of its habitats inย Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it tends to prefer residing on the elevated branches of trees. Accordingly, unlocking Dash Mode first for tree-ramming is very beneficial for a Pineco hunt. Pineco can spawn near or on trees in Areas One and Two of the East Province, Areas Four and Three of the South Province, Area Three of the West Province, or the Tagtree Thicket. The Tagtree Thicket has an abundance of trees within a concentrated area, making it an optimal spot to hunt for Pineco. Nevertheless, players might get lucky searching in one of the other spots on the map.
One of the biggest challenges when searching for Pineco inย Pokรฉmon Scarlet and Violetย is dealing with its inherent ability to camouflage into the tall grass of the woodlands. The color of its shell is quite similar to the forest floors, making it difficult to see the small Bagworm pinecone hiding in the shrubbery. Conversely, if Trainers are struggling to encounter even one Pineco during their journey, eating a Sandwich that boosts Bug-type Encounter Power will be very beneficial. Such recipes include the Ultra Potato Salad Sandwich and the Ultra Variety Sandwich.
