After years in development, Doom now has a release date. The new entry in the storied shooter franchise is set to release on May 13, 2016, for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

This announcement was accompanied by the reveal of ย a premium collectors edition for the game. it will set you back $120 and will include a 12-inch statue of a Revenant Demon and a copy of the game in a sleek metal case.

Doom's special edition is terrifying and incredible at the same time.

The title was rumoured to have had a rough development cycle and gameplay was officially revealed at Bethesda’s E3 2015 press conference. It showcased beautiful graphics, tight shooting, and buckets of blood and viscera. The game will also have a full suite of multiplayer features and a level creator.

We only have the one gameplay segment to go by, but id Software and Bethesda are clearly bringing the series back to its roots while still pushing it forward. are gameplay additions like gory melee animations, improved mobility with things like the jetpack, and fun new weapons.ย Don’t worry, though, classic weapons like the double barrel shotgun, Rocket Launcher and the famous BFG are still there in all their glory.

This is technically the fourth entry in the seminal FPS franchise that began in 1993 with the original Doom and continued in 1994 with Doom II. The series then took some time off and reinvented itself with 2004s Doom III. 2016s Doom will mark the first new entry in the franchise in over 10 years.
