This month,ย Rocket Leagueย will enter its second competitive season with a large February update. One of the biggest additions with this update will be a new casual playlist called “Rocket Labs.” Inย this playlist, players will be able to compete with new map types, which Gamespot reported onย duringย their latest visit to developer Psyonix.

The three maps being released in the February update will only be playable in unranked matches (for now, see below), but they promise to offer some serious gameplay changes to an already frenetic game. The first new map is a circular map called Utopia Retro, which is inspired by the predecessor toย Rocket League:ย Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. A second map is called Underpass, and it will feature ramps and varying elevations. This will surely add extra flair to some ofย Rocket League‘s already outrageous aerial stunts.

The final map that will be included in the February Rocket Labs update is one called Double-Goal. It features (obviously) a goal that is divided into two distinct parts. Sounds like a nightmare for the already difficult task of minding the net inย Rocket League.

In addition to what had previously been released about the February update, there is a bit more news on what we can expect in the next few weeks. The “Snow Day” mutator, puck ball type, and Winter Stadium are all going to be added as permanent casual play options. For competitive players, in perhaps a sign of things to come, the Wasteland map will now be a part of ranked playlists. This is significant because it will be the first ranked map that has a different layout than the others. Maybe, in the future, we can expect to see maps from the Rocket Labs playlist make their way to ranked play? The February update will also see new cosmetic items and a report function to hopefully cull any toxic players.

It's the gift that keeps on giving.
