Destiny 1 Arrives on PC via Emulation
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Destiny franchise has been around since 2014 and was met with plenty of excitement from the gaming committee. It’s now self-published by Bungie after separating from Activision in 2019 and was released on September 9, 2014, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles. The original title, which was exclusive to consoles, has so far deprived PC players of itself. As it turns out things have changed and Destiny 1 found a way to come to PC thanks to emulation.

Destiny 1 Runs on PC via Emulation

Destiny 1 debuted in 2014 and ignored PC players for being console-only. Over time, the sequelย arrived and unlike the first game, it officially debuted on PC. However, some players still prefer to go back to the past, and thanks to a few communities this will now be possible for the original game.

Destiny fan Lucas shared the process from his YouTube account that Destiny 1 runs on PC through the RPCS3 emulator. The emulator now boots every single PS3 game including the original Destiny title. Since some things are not the same as before (PS3 version, problems about live-service elements), V4NGUARD, the unofficial alternative server of the game, takes the wheel. Thanks to the alternative server, Lucas did access Destiny’s old Tower via RPCS3 on PC.

V4NGUARD servers are not yet recommended for general use, and Lucas’ YouTube video shows that the game doesn’t offer a good gameplay experience through the emulator, at least for now. But Lucas also said that V4NGUARD will get a public alpha release at some point in 2023, probably in March. At this point, should be noted that there are visual and performance issues in the game for now. However, the upcoming alpha release may allow the game to become better.

Destinyย is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
