As we here at the Nerd Stash have previously reported a company called Retro Video Game Systems Inc. has entered into a licensing deal with Coleco, the company responsible for one of Atari’s competitor consoles, the Colecovision, and are bringing a new console to market using the Coleco brand and Atari Jaguar cases. This new machine is called the Coleco Chameleon and up until now very little was known about it, beyond it’s basic premise. After being shown for the first time at the New York Toy Fair this past weekend, there is significantly more information available.
The Coleco Chameleon will be able to play newly made cartridges for classic games, many of which were never released in the United Sates, in addition to producing cartridges for brand new games created by indie developers. There is also a chance that in the future the Coleco Chameleon will be able to play cartridges from various classic old school consoles through the use of adapters, but that is not a certainty at this time.

The controller the console comes bundled with is essentially a wired Wii U Pro controller. The console has 4 USB ports on its front panel, allowing players to use any USB controller of their choosing. The Coleco Chameleon also comes with a variety of connection ports, including HDMI, 9-pin Mini-DIN and RCA.
The console will be funded, at least in part, by a Kickstarter campaign which will be launching on Friday, February, 26th 2016. The lowest support level starts at $130 and includes the console and wires. The console is likely to hit store shelves with the asking price of $150 dollars.
Do you think the Coleco Chameleon will fail? Can you not sleep due to your excitement over this console? Have you never heard of Coleco before? Either way, we would love to hear about it in the comments section.
