How to Make Potion of Weakness in Minecraft

Weak for you

Zombie Villagers would rather chew on you than grow crops, which is less than ideal for your survival. Curing these poor peasants of their curse is easier said than done, however. To do so you’ll need a Potion of Weakness, and the Splash variation has even more uses. You can use this potion to reduce the damage output of enemy players or Mojang‘s many mobs, making it a good way to get an edge in battle. For even better results, you can first upgrade its duration using Redstone. Here’s how to make a Potion of Weakness (and its Splash variant) in Minecraft.

To make a Potion of Weakness in Minecraft, you need a Fermented Spider Eye. Spiders only drop the regular variety, however, so you can’t just beat up Aragog and brew a potion. Once you’ve killed a spider and collected a Spider Eye, you’ll need to combine it with Sugar and a Brown Mushroom to create a Fermented Spider Eye. Here’s what you need to do next:

  1. Construct a Brewing Stand
  2. Place the Fermented Spider Eye in the Brewing Stand’s ingredient slot
  3. Place 1-3 Bottles of Water in the Brewing Stand
  4. Collect the Potion of Weakness when it finishes brewing

Optionally, you can place Redstone in the ingredient slot after the Brewing Stand consumes the Fermented Spider Eye. Doing so increases the duration of the Potion, letting your magical malady linger. It’s not time to bust out the fireworks and celebrate yet, however. To turn a Potion of Weakness into its Splash variant in Minecraft, you must put Gunpowder into the brewing slot. If you’re trying to cure a Zombie Villager, keep in mind that you’ll also need a Golden Apple to feed the NPC after you throw the potion. An apple a day keeps undeath away, apparently.
