If you’re an avid book reader but don’t have space or the physical strength to carry all the books you want to get through then you probably already have an ebook reader. Isn’t it a hassle having to keep track of the charger for your e-reader? Having to be constantly aware of its location, well those days are long gone thanks to ebook reader maker Bookeen. They’ve released a new case for their Cybook Ocean reader that lets it stay fully charged by the power of the sun. The best part is that it only needs to charge for one hour to get you a full day’s charge. Long gone are the days of picking up your e-reader and having to go plug it in because the battery ran out.
The Cybook Ocean reader cover has a printed optical network combined with solar modules enabling to recharge the e-book thanks to photovoltaic effect (production of electricity thanks to a light source); spectacular technology but you probably only care about the fact that it’ll always be charged.
The company states that an hour of good light conditions will be enough to guarantee a day’s charge for their e-reader but does this mean areas with less than optimal weather conditions will be left out in the cold (yes, that was a weather pun)? Given that a typical overcast day comes out to anywhere between 1,000 and 2,000 lux and this new cover requires exposure to 25,000 lux I’d say any area with a sun deficiency should think twice about getting excited.
The new cover will be available for the Cybook Ocean this summer and will become available for other Bookeen products later on.
