Bob Hearts Abishola is officially on the list of renewed sitcoms that will appear on CBS in the next season. Joining the ranks of Young Sheldon and Ghosts, the Chuck Lorre-led series has officially been renewed for season 5 on CBS. Starring Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku alongside Gardell, Bob Hearts Abishola is currently airing its fourth season on CBS.
Premiering on CBS in September 2019, Bob Hearts Abishola follows the story of Detroit native Robert “Bob” Wheeler (Gardell), a divorced businessman who heads his family’s compression sock business alongside his mother, Dottie (Christine Ebersole) and younger twin siblings, Douglas (Matt Jones) and Christina (Maribeth Monroe). After suffering a heart attack and being admitted to the hospital, Bob falls head-over-heels for his nurse, Abishola (Olowofoyeku), a Nigerian immigrant who had previously moved to America with her husband and son, only for her husband to return to their new country.
Over its four-season runtime, Bob Hearts Abishola has depicted a “tentative romance across cultural lines”, per a Detroit Free Press review of the show. Variety reports that the series is averaging 6.9 million viewers per episode, a statistic that certainly didn’t hurt its chances at renewal when it came time for the CBS executives to choose which shows would continue for another season.
‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ Among Four Other CBS Series to be Renewed
Bob Hearts Anisola creator Chuck Lorre, the mind behind The Big Bang Theory and Mom, among other CBS sitcoms, will continue to produce season 5 of Bob Hearts Abishola under his Chuck Lorre Productions umbrella. Lorre will be joined by fellow executive producers Al Higgins (Mike & Molly), Matt Ross (Two and a Half Men), and Gina Yashere, who also stars in Bob Hearts Abishola as Kemi, Abishola’s best friend.
Bob Hearts Abishola is one of CBS’s four current primetime sitcoms, airing alongside Ghosts, The Neighborhood, and Young Sheldon, another Chuck Lorre production. With the renewal of Bob Hearts Abishola for season 5, all four of the series have been officially renewed for the 2023-2024 broadcast season, as other shows like United States of Al and Good Sam have either been canceled or ended in the meantime.
