The game is still set to release on April 22 and has been improved greatly since it was shown at E3. The game’s graphics have been polished up, enemies are more aggressive, and gamepad control is apparently much more responsive.

The biggest announcement is the release of Star Fox Guard. This is the evolution of a Minamoto project that was known as Project Guard. Players will protect a tower owned by Slipy’s uncle using twelve different cameras to scout out and defend against encroaching enemies. This tower defence game will be included with the physical edition of Star Fox Zero but can be purchased separately on the Wii U eShop if you buy the game digitally.

By using a Fox Amiibo in the game, players can unlock the Arwing from the SNES version of the game, which will apparently unlock more secrets in-game.

Star Fox Zero was first shown off at E3 2015 and marks the series return to form after games like Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Adventures. Players will guide ace pilot Fox McCloud and his team through a series of on rail gauntlets. The Wii U Gamepad is used to move the cockpit view and fire at enemies while the control sticks manoeuvre the ship.

The game was met with a lukewarm reaction at E3, but has seen a lot of polish since then. Also of note is the involvement of Platinum Games, makers of Bayonetta, who have played a large part in development.
