SNES games are finally making their way to the 3DS eShop.

The movement was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct and laid out the release plans for upcoming titles. Three games are available starting today: Super Mario World, Pilot Wings and F-Zero. On March 24, Super Mario Kart, EarthBound and Donkey Kong Country will release, followed by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest on April 14.

The games will also feature a “Pixel Perfect mode,” which will display them in their original resolution. No price was announced but we will know shortly when the first wave of games makes their way to the store later today.

Super Nintendo Virtual Console games were previously only available on the Wii U. The 3DS store hosted a selection of GameBoy, GameBoy Colour and NES games but fans clamoured for the release of SNES games on the handheld.

The first three sets of SNES games coming out on 3DS showcase some of the consoles very best, including Super Mario World, Super Metroid and the adorably quirky EarthBound. While only nine games were announced today, there are certainly many more to come, but we will most likely have to wait until the first set of games has made their way to the 3DS.
