The Telescope is a unique tool as it is the first item in the game that allows you to see farther. The developers added it along with the Caves & Cliffs update. And although at first glance, it may seem that the Telescope is only useful on the surface or in the mountains, it is not. The updated caves in Minecraft are incredibly huge. Therefore, using this tool, you can find out in advance whether it is worth descending into the cave or not. However, making a Telescope in Minecraft can be a little tricky.

Players can craft Telescope in Minecraft using two resources, namely 2 Copper Ingots and Amethyst Shard. Copper Ingots are very easy to make. You just need to walk through the caves and find Raw Copper. And then smelt Raw Copper into Copper Ingots.

But Amethyst Shard is a completely different matter. This resource is quite hard to find, as it only spawns in two locations:

  • You can find Amethyst Shard in chests in Ancient City. But finding this location is quite difficult. Moreover, Ancient City is guarded by a strong mob that does not like extra noise.
  • Therefore, we recommend that you look for an Amethyst geode. This structure spawns at approximately Y=-58 and Y=30 depths in any underground biomes. And inside the Amethyst geode, you can collect quite a few Amethyst Clusters from which you can get Amethyst Shards.

Now that you know where to find the resources you need, you can start crafting. Place 2 Copper Ingots vertically in the center of the Crafting frames and an Amethyst Shard above them to make a Telescope in Minecraft.

That’s all you need to know about how to make a Telescope in Minecraft. This useful tool will come in handy during your adventures, especially if you are looking for a specific biome. And while you are here, take a look at our guide on

Minecraft is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation,  iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
